Website Accessibility
Everyone in our community, including people with disabilities, should be able to use our website, read our documents, and take part in district programs online.
School Website Accessibility Policy
Our commitment
The Phoenix Central School District is committed to making its website, online documents, and digital tools accessible to all students, parents and guardians, employees, and members of the community.
We are working to make our web content and mobile apps conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This is the technical standard required for public schools and other state and local government entities under the U.S. Department of Justice’s rule for Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Where we can, we go further and design to WCAG 2.2, Level AA, the newer version that New York State requires for its own agency websites. WCAG 2.2 includes everything in WCAG 2.1.
The district also follows Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the New York State Human Rights Law, which prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability in public schools.
Accessibility is ongoing work. As we add and update content, we review it for accessibility, and we fix problems as we find them or as they are reported to us.
WCAG 2.1 Level AA
Required under ADA Title II, 28 CFR Part 35, Subpart H.
Our goal: WCAG 2.2 Level AA, matching New York State’s standard for state websites.
What we’re doing
How we make our website accessible
Accessible pages
Clear headings, readable text sizes, strong color contrast, and pages that work with a keyboard and a screen reader.
Images and video
Descriptive alt text for images and captions for district videos.
Documents and forms
Tagged, readable PDFs and fillable forms. Older documents are updated or provided in an accessible format on request.
Vendor tools
We ask the companies that provide our online platforms, such as ParentSquare and ClassLink, to meet the same standard.
Testing and training
Automated and hands-on testing of our pages, and training for staff who publish content.
