Today at 12:30PM, the District Office received information from law enforcement about a concern in the surrounding area that prompted the Phoenix CSD to issue a “lockout” for all three buildings as a precaution. A “lockout” is put in place for a low level threat.
In April 2013, our students in grades 3-8 were tested in ELA and math. The ELA and math assessments were aligned to the Common Core State Standards for the first time. Student scores should be available near the start of school.
The overall Phoenix CSD results will be released to the public this week. You will notice that there is a significant decline in our students’ performance.
As we begin the budget process for 2013-2014, I am saddened to say that once again we have received a minimal state aid increase. The overall net increase in state aid for Phoenix CSD is $228,670. Our total budget for the 2012-2013 school year is $41,261,399. As you can see, our increase in state aid is a drop in the bucket compared to our overall school budget.
On Friday, December 14th my heart was broken to learn about the massacre of students and staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. My sympathy and prayers go out to the families and communities affected by this senseless tragedy.
